New Borough boss Mark Stimson´s first signing sees former Grays full back John Nutter arrive on a 2 year contract. The 24 year old has league experience at Wycombe and is highly regarded having represented England´s non league side last week

Kennett Gets Grand Prix Callup

Rye House rider Edward Kennett has been chosen as reserve for Saturdays British Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The 19 year old fills the role for the second year running at British speedways most prestigious event after a successful season so far that has seen Kennett qualify for the World Under 21 semifinals and the Championship of Great Britain final

Because of the Grand Prix there will be no racing at Hoddesdon this Saturday and the Premier League meeting with Workington Comets has been rearranged for Sunday 4th at 2pm

Herts Settle for Draw

After rain washed out the first two days of Hertfordshire´s opening league match in the Minor Counties Championship both teams forfeited their first innings on the final day to try to force a result. Bedfordshire won the toss and asked Herts to bat. David Ward made the best of an easy paced pitch to smash 133 with 8 sixes and 14 fours, ably supported by new captain Andy Lewis who declared on 260-4 after hitting 3 sixes in a quickfire 49.
The visitors had a minimum of 43 overs to chase down the total but were soon in trouble as Aaron Laraman and David Moore picked up early wickets. At 35-3 Herts sniffed victory but a knee injury to spinner Matt Smith restricted the hosts attack and the game petered out with Bedfordshire 87 runs short of their target

Scores
Herts 260-4 Ward 133, Lewis 49
Beds 173-5 Laraman 2-31, Moore 2-36

Herts Opener Reduced to One Day Match

With rain on Saturday causing a waterlogged pitch at Hertford´s Balls Park ground, the opening match in Hertfordshire´s Minor Counties cricket league programme has seen no play on the first two days frustrating the Bank Holiday crowd. Herts now hope to play a one day game against Bedfordshire on Tuesday

Rockets Easily Repel Bandits

Rye House Rockets overcame showery conditions to send the Berwick Bandits packing in a curtailed Bank Holiday programme at Hoddesdon
Luke Bowen and Steve Boxall both registered 13 points as Rockets failed to lose a single heat. After Tommy Allen and Ross Brady had opened the meeting with a 4-2 win, Bowen and Boxall set the tone for the afternoon´s action with a 5-1 romp in the next, which the Rockets then repeated 7 times. Berwick were 18-6 down before sharing the 5th heat but never threatened after then with Edward Kennett, Tommy Allen and Chris Neath driving home the advantage to secure Rockets 2nd league win

The uncertain weather caused Raiders Conference League clash with Boston to be postponed

Stimson Appointed as Borough Boss

Mark Stimson has been appointed Stevenage Borough´s new manager. The former Grays Athletic boss replaces Graham Westley who leaves after 3 years in charge at Broadhall Way. Stimson has a record second to none in non league football having masterminded Grays rise through the Conference ranks to a play off position last season and 2 FA Trophy successes
Borough chairman Phil Wallace confirmed Stimson was top of his target list. "When we heard Mark was available there was never going to be anyone else as our first choice and we were determined as a Board to do whatever was necessary to persuade him to join us."
Stimson spent 4 years at the Recreation Ground building a reputation for getting players to maximise their ability. Wallace persuaded Stimson to choose Borough over several Football League clubs and believes he can achieve the promotion thats been elusive in recent seasons playing the football that Borough fans want to see
Stimson has signed a 3 year contract starting on June 1st and has already identified a group of players he wants to bring to Broadhall Way
Fans will get a chance to meet the new boss at a Meet the Fans evening later in June

Injury Problems Mount for Cents

St Albans Centurions coach Glen Tyreman faces a selection headache ahead of Sundays derby clash at Hemel Stags. Allen Wheeler, Richard Louw, Greg Lemon and Nick Surtees are sidelined by injury. With Farren Mahoney and Brendan Potts suspended and Dene Miller on Scotland A duty Cents are hampered as they try to bounce back from last Saturdays reverse at Dewsbury and inflict a first defeat on league leaders Hemel
The match at Pennine Way gets underway at 2.30

Herts Confident of Championship Success

Hertfordshire cricket team begin their new league campaign on Sunday in good spirits after a resounding success against Oxfordshire in the Knockout Trophy. Determined to improve on last seasons disappointing ninth place in the Minor Counties Eastern Division new captain Andy Lewis is excited about what lies ahead. "Understanding how to win is a key to having a successful team and the way we beat Oxfordshire shows us just how to do that."
There is one change to the team for the opener against Bedfordshire, West Herts batsmen Spencer Fan replacing Stephen Lowe. The batting looks strong led by former captain and ex Surrey star David Ward, the highly experienced Aaron Laraman, Welwyn Garden City´s Ben Frazer and wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Jenkins from Knebworth Park
All rounders Simon White from WGC and Knebworth´s Tony Skeggs add extra depth
Laraman, White and Skeggs will share seam bowling duties with Hitchin´s David Moore, Frazer and Matt Smith of West Herts provide the spin option
Bedfordshire arrive without a win this season as the 3 day match gets underway at Hertford´s Balls Park ground at 11am on Sunday

Lewis will get a taste of the pitch on Saturday as Hertford host North Mymms in the latest round of Home Counties matches with both teams in search of their first win.

Rocket Power Sinks Travel Sick Islanders

Rye House Rockets 66 Isle of Wight 26

A maximum from skipper Chris Neath was the highlight as the Rockets cruised into the second round of the KO Cup. With a 12 point deficit to overcome after Tuesday's first leg the Rockets expected a stiff challenge but with the Islanders looking decidedly travel sick it never materialised. A maximum from Edward Kennett and Tommy Allen in Heat 5 leveled the aggregate scores allowing Rye House to turn on the power. Both Neath and Kennett were unbeaten by an opponent although the biggest cheeer of the night was reserved for No8 Danny Betson who recorded a heat win in his first ever race at Premier League level. The Rockets now face either Berwick or Kings Lynn in the next round.

Stimson and Harvey In For Borough Job

Stevenage Borough have drawn up a shortlist of 6 for the vacant managers post at Broadhall Way. The candidates include two former Conference bosses who quit their posts at the end of the season. Jimmy Harvey steered Morecambe into the play offs ironically at Borough's expense while Mark Stimson was the mastermind behind Grays Athletics best ever season. A club spokesman said "The board acknowledges the need to make an appointment at the earliest opportunity and are working towards seeing all potential candidates by the weekend."

Injuries Piling Up For Rockets

Already without Ross Brady who damaged an ankle on Saturday against Mildenhall the Rye House Rockets now face the prospect of losing Jamie Courtney for a while after last nights crash on the Isle of Wight. Courtney sustained damaged vetrtebrae in his back, 2 cracked ribs and severe bruising following his fall in Heat8. He is currently in hospital on the island and looks unlikely to be released until the weekend at the earliest. That leaves the Rockets with big problems ahead of Saturdays KO Cup Second Leg as they try to claw back a 12 point deficit to qualify for the next round of the competition they reached the final of last season.

20 Points from Steve Boxall kept the Rockets on course for a place in the second round of the Knock Out Cup. it was a dramatic evening on the Island with a succesion of machinery problems leaving the Rockets trailing by 14 points after only six heats. A tactical maximum from Boxall and Jamie Courtney in Heat 8 pulled the defecit back to just six. Courtney though ended in hospital after he was accidently caught by Jason Doyle. Already missing the injured Ross Brady the Rockets dug deep through the final 7 heats and will now fancy their chances of progressing after Saturday's second leg.

Blues Go Their Seperate Ways

The expected disbanding of Ryman League Division Two means both Hertford and Ware will be playing in new leagues next season. Ware will be promoted to Ryman League Division One North and face local derbys against Harlow and tenants Enfield. Hertford have been admitted to the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

Herts break duck

A resounding win for Hertfordshire cricketers against Oxfordshire confirmed the team ´s pre season promise but probably came too late to secure a semi final place in the Minor Counties Knockout Trophy .

A century from former captain David Ward set the tone after Andy Lewis had won the toss and Steve Lowe´s run a ball 84 enabled Herts to score an imposing total of 281 for 7. Aaron Laraman demonstrated what a useful acquisition he will be taking 4 for 26 ably supported by Welwyn Garden City teammate Simon White´s parsimonious 1 for 18 in 10 overs. Oxfordshire never threatened the Herts total and were dismissed for 159 to lose by 122 runs.

In the first round of club league matches half centuries from Cliff Cavener, Scott Ruskin and Phil Carlson failed to prevent defeat for Hertford on their return to the Home Counties league as Potters Bar successfully chased 268 thanks to a century from Kaushayla Weeratne. Hoddesdon also found life tough losing heavily to Sawbridgeworth. Stevenage batsmen were in form topping 300 to crush North Mymms and Welwyn Garden City won the local battle against Knebworth Park.
St Margaretsbury will take heart as their first match after relegation saw their openers unparted in a successful run chase of 161 against Northwood

Kennett into World Under 21 Semi Final

Rye House Rockets Edward Kennett has qualified for the semi finals of the World Under 21 Championships. Kennett got a late call into today's qualifier at Sheffield after originally missing out in the recent British Championships at Kings Lynn. He scored 10 points at Owlerton including 3 heat wins. There was no luck for team mate Steve Boxall though who finished down the field with 7 points after an opening heat engine failure.

Westley On His Way in June

Stevenage Borough have announced that manager Graham Westley's contract at Broadhall Way will not be renewed when it expires in June. Westley joined Borough in January 2003 leading them to safety. He achieved two succesive top 6 finishes and took the team to the 2005 play off final. Chairman Phil Wallace told the club's website "Graham has made a real difference to Stevenage Borough, we have a great respect for what he achieved here and the board thanks him for his outstanding work these last three years."

Bowen The Key As Rockets Tame Fen Tigers

Rye House Rockets 53 Mildenhall Fen Tigers 40

Harlow resident Luke Bowen was the hero as the Rockets secured their third home win of the season over rivals Mildenhall. Bowen top scored with 11 including a memorable victory over Jason Lyons in Heat 11. It was a solid all round team performance from the Rockets with Steve Boxall proving his fitness by contributing 8+3 from his 4 rides. Boxall earned the biggest cheer of the night for his daring swoop round Shaun Tacey and Barry Burchatt to back up Edward Kennett in Heat 12. The only dampner on a dramatic night which saw a water bowser burst and a temporary power loss was the Heat 13 crash which saw Ross Brady removed from the track in an ambulance. its feared the scotsman has sustained ligament damage to his ankle and the Rockets will wait on his fitness ahead of Tuesday's visit to the Isle of Wight in the KO Cup.

Herts Face Uphill Struggle

With defeats in their opening 2 games in the Minor Counties Knockout Competition, Hertfordshire cricketers will need a minor miracle to qualify for the semi-finals. After losing to Cambridgeshire in the opening group 4 match, new captain Andy Lewis saw his team miss out in a tense finale at Radlett on Sunday. Knebworth Park all rounder Tony Skeggs took 3-32 to restrict Wiltshire to 208 but despite Steven Lowe hitting 61 and 53 from Welwyn Garden City´s Aaron Laraman, Herts fell 14 runs short

The team travel to Aston Rowant for a must win game against Oxfordshire on Sunday 14th May

Meanwhile in the Evening Standard Challenge Trophy 137 from Cliff Cavener and Richard Cordingley´s 6-33 enabled Hertford to reach round 2 after a 50 run win at Acton. This weekend sees a double header at Balls Park with the league opener against Potters Bar on Saturday and West Herts visit in the ECB Cockspur Cup Round 2 on Sunday

Wallace No Decision On Westley Future Yet

Stevenage Borough chairman Phil Wallace has said there will be no immediate decision on the future of manager Graham Westley who's contract at Broadhall Way expires next month. Wallace told the clubs website ’I’ve said that discussions have been opened with Graham, in accordance with his contract which ends next month, on whether it suits both parties to extend that contract. I’ve met with him once to start those discussions and the next stage in that process is for the Board to meet and discuss it.Graham will have the opportunity to put forward his plans for the future after the reserve game against Colchester and they will be considered by the Board over the coming week or so. This is not a one meeting decision and I don’t expect to be making any announcements after it."

Boxall Set To Return

Boxall though has vowed to ride through the pain as the Rockets look to bounce back from Saturday's defeat at Workington.
