Herts Settle for Draw

After rain washed out the first two days of Hertfordshire´s opening league match in the Minor Counties Championship both teams forfeited their first innings on the final day to try to force a result. Bedfordshire won the toss and asked Herts to bat. David Ward made the best of an easy paced pitch to smash 133 with 8 sixes and 14 fours, ably supported by new captain Andy Lewis who declared on 260-4 after hitting 3 sixes in a quickfire 49.
The visitors had a minimum of 43 overs to chase down the total but were soon in trouble as Aaron Laraman and David Moore picked up early wickets. At 35-3 Herts sniffed victory but a knee injury to spinner Matt Smith restricted the hosts attack and the game petered out with Bedfordshire 87 runs short of their target

Scores
Herts 260-4 Ward 133, Lewis 49
Beds 173-5 Laraman 2-31, Moore 2-36
