Both Tomas Topinka and Kevin Doolan ended unbeaten by an opponent as the Rockets struggled. Already without the injured Stuart Robson they lost Steve Boxall to concussion in only the second heat forcing fellow reserve Tommy Allen to take a maximum seven rides. Rockets Up For The Cup

Premier League Knock Out Cup Final 1st Leg

Kings Lynn Stars v Rye House Rockets

Rye House Rockets travel to Kings Lynn on Friday full of confidence that they can lift their third major trophy of the season. Despite missing Stuart Robson Rye House will be hoping to keep the score line close ahead of Saturday’s second leg back in Hoddesdon. When the two teams met last at the Norfolk Arena Kings Lynn recorded a 15-point victory but the Rockets have already beaten their opponents comfortably at home twice this season. The action at the Norfolk Arena gets underway at 7:30pm weather permitting. If the forecast rain does intervene its thought that the meeting will be re staged on Wednesday October 26th.

Boro count the cost of budget

For the second time in two seasons, Stevenage were forced to release a player in order to stay within the Conference wage structure. Last year, Craig Mcallister was sent on loan to stay within budget, and Richie Hanlon was released completely. This year it is David Perpetuini who had only been at the club for a couple of months since his release from Walsall in the summer. Boro go into the televised game against Dagenham knowing that a good win will take them as high as 5th, above the Exeter team they defeated only two weeks ago.

Cents Out but Hertford Progress

Rugby Roundup

A mixed weekend in Cup competition for Matchbeat rugby teams

After another trail-blazing season for Hertfordshire's Premier rugby league team St Albans Centurions reached the end of the road in the National League Three play offs. Colin Baker's team found Bradford Dudley Hill Demons in unstoppable form in their Play off eliminator losing 63-10

Better news for Hertford Superblues. Their first outing in rugby unions Powergen National Trophy brought success at a price against Ealing. The Londoners who had knocked out Richmond in the previous round were beaten 28-16 but serious injuries to debutant Christian Cano and Rob Colbourne will keep them out for several months.

Richmond proved too strong for Old Albanians at Woolams and lead the Powergen London One table. Letchworth and St Albans suffered home defeats in league two north. Stevenage lost narrowly to Harpenden, Welwyn beat Barnet Saracens Elisabethans in a tight league three north west while Datchworth's match with Harrow was abandoned after injury to the referee
