Gregory Off as Borough Crash

Hereford 2 Stevenage Borough 0

Any fleeting chance Stevenage Borough had of trying to catch run away Conference leaders Accrington was removed at Edgar Street where goals from teenagers Andy Williams and Stuart Fleetwood condemned Grahsm Westley's side to their 9th league defeat of the season. Williams put the Bulls in front right on half time Fleetwood doubling the advantage 5 minutes after the break. To make matters worse for Borough they had Justin Gregory dismmissed after picking up a second yellow card with 20 minutes to go. George Boyd had Stevenage's best chance producing a fine save from home keeper Wayne Brown. Borough stay 4th in the table 17 points off the top.

Stevenage Borough gave their promotion hopes a huge boost with victory over fellow contenders Morecambe. Jon Nurse's first-half goal allowed them to leap-frog their opponents into third place. From a free-kick, Nurse worked himself into a one-on-one with Steven Drench and then lobbed the advancing keeper. Morecambe thought they had equalised when Garry Thompson's point-blank effort looked to have crossed the line before goalkeeper Alan Julian cleared.

Leaders Ware took their unbeaten run to 11 games after beating Chalfont 3-0 at Wodson Park. Inspired by the return to the club of striker John Frendo the Blues survived some early scares before taking the lead courtesy of Danny Spendlove's 22nd minute header. Frendo set up number two when he was tripped from behind by John Carroll after 31 minutes referee Mark Spradbury pointing to the spot and after consultation with an assistant reducing the visitors to 10 men. Joe Stevens took his goal tally to 16 by confidently dispatching the penalty. The result was never in doubt after that substitue Chris Ellerbeck rounding proceedings off beating keeper Doug McKechnie with the last kick of the match. Ware's lead at the top of the table is now up to 5 points after Flackwell's surprising 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Brook House. At the other end of the table Hertford's struggles go on a 3-0 defeat at Chertsey means they have won just one of their last ten.

Rocket's Land Grand Prix Qualifier

Rye House Rockets management were delighted with the news that the club has been chosen to host a Qualifying Round for the Championship of Great Britain on Saturday April 22nd. Changes in the rules for the Speedway Grand Prix Series now mean that all riders outside the top 8 have to qualify for a place in the world championship. The meeting will be one of the biggest to be staged at the Hoddesdon track and Promoter Len Silver is already looking for a sponsor. The fixture means the Rockets will now begin the defence of their Premier League Title a month early when the Sheffield Tigers are the visitors on Saturday March 25th.

London Colney are 12th in the table but can take heart from a 0-0 draw against leaders Oxford City at Cotlandswick. St Margaretsbury are a place below after recoding the same scoreline against Ruislip Manor. In Division One Hoddesdon's chances of a quick return to the top flight seem to be fading fast after a 2-0 defeat at Buckingham Athletic.

Herts Senior County League
Buntingford added to their reputation as the Premier Division's form team Paul Attfield's side recording their 4th straight win 4-2 at home to Met Police Bushey. A brace from Carl Smith took his goal tally to 8 in 4 games Town's other strikes coming from Duncan Easley and an own goal.
