Herts break duck

A resounding win for Hertfordshire cricketers against Oxfordshire confirmed the team ´s pre season promise but probably came too late to secure a semi final place in the Minor Counties Knockout Trophy .

A century from former captain David Ward set the tone after Andy Lewis had won the toss and Steve Lowe´s run a ball 84 enabled Herts to score an imposing total of 281 for 7. Aaron Laraman demonstrated what a useful acquisition he will be taking 4 for 26 ably supported by Welwyn Garden City teammate Simon White´s parsimonious 1 for 18 in 10 overs. Oxfordshire never threatened the Herts total and were dismissed for 159 to lose by 122 runs.

In the first round of club league matches half centuries from Cliff Cavener, Scott Ruskin and Phil Carlson failed to prevent defeat for Hertford on their return to the Home Counties league as Potters Bar successfully chased 268 thanks to a century from Kaushayla Weeratne. Hoddesdon also found life tough losing heavily to Sawbridgeworth. Stevenage batsmen were in form topping 300 to crush North Mymms and Welwyn Garden City won the local battle against Knebworth Park.
St Margaretsbury will take heart as their first match after relegation saw their openers unparted in a successful run chase of 161 against Northwood
