Saturday Football Roundup

Nationwide Conference

Second Half Storm From Borough
Stevenage Borough 4 Cambridge United 1
A second half storm from Borough quite literally blew Cambridge United away after the visitors had taken an early lead. Cambridge went in front with 25 minutes gone when Dean Holdsworth headed home Mark Peters cross. That was enough to send Stevenage in trailing at the break but whatever Mark Stimson said in his team talk it completely changed the game. Jon Nutter equalised for Borough after Dean Hooper handled in the area 10 minutes into the second half. Mark Beard’s right footed drive made it 2-1 with 19 minutes left before Dale Binns drilled home a close range effort to stretch the home advantage. The prolific Steve Morison capping Borough’s comeback by thumping home his 23rd goal of the season with three minutes left.
Stevenage: Julian: Fuller (Hughes): Nutter: Gaia: Henry: Nurse: Miller: Guppy (Binns): Beard: Slabber (Oliver): Morison:

Saints Falling Fast
Burton 1 St Albans 0
Saints crashed to their fifth defeat in the last six games thanks to Aaron Webster’s header a minute before the break. Webster was left unmarked to finish off Keith Gilroy’s corner in a scrappy affair. Matt Hann and Ram Mawra had St Albans best chances but both found home keeper Kevin Poole in good form.
St Albans: Bastock: Seeby (Watters): Elphick: Sangare: Batt: Hann: Cracknell: Ada: Marwa: Clarke (Hakim): Archer (Martin)

Ryman League Division One North
Blues Beaten
Ware have now won just one of their last 5 after a 2-0 defeat at Redbridge which saw Glen Alzapedi's side start to lose ground on the pace setters. The Blues now trail leaders Hornchurch who won 2-0 at Waltham Forest by 21 points. Enfield Town third this morning won the match of the day Steve Velandia's 30 yard pile driver enough to beat second placed Harlow 1-0 in a bad tempered encounter at Barrows Farm.

Spartan South Midlands League

Herts Senior County League
The weather again caused havoc to the programme. Of the games that did survive in the Premier Division Standon & Puckeridge's revival continued as they beat Elliott Star 4-3. Ricky Antoine and Anthony Miles scoring two a piece lifting Standon out of the bottom three for the first time this season. In Division One Allenburys are up to third thanks to a Mark Dredge goal which was enough to beat Croxley Guild. No joy for Little Munden who continue to struggle the latest reverse coming at Buckhurst Hill where they lost 4-2. Sandridge Rovers are out of the Herts Centenary Trophy after a 2-1 defeat at Sun Postal, Chris Wickens got Rovers goal.

Morison deflected Dale Binns shot home after 68 minutes before finishing off Craig Dobson's pass with six minutes left.

Stamp on His Way

Halifax have won the race to sign Stevenage Borough striker Daryn Stamp. The Shaymen agreed a 2 year deal when York City said they would not pay a fee for Stamp who had been on loan at KitKat Crescent earlier in the season. Stamp was originally signed by former boss Graham Westley and fell out of favour with new manager Paul Stimson after the signing of Steve Morison in the summer.
