Frendo Snubs Blues

Striker John Frendo has turned down a move to Ware after a succesful loan period at the club. The Blues attempted to make the strikers move to Wodson Park a permanent one after he joined for a month from parent club Hendon. It now appears though that the prolific marksman will be plying his trade in the Spartan South Midlands League having accepted an offer from Premier Division Club Broxbourne Borough. Frendo will play his last game for Hendon in tonights Middlesex Senior Cup tie against Northwood.

Weekend Rugby Review

Hertford returned from their National League Three South match at Havant with nothing to show after narrowly failing to secure a bonus point
Beset by injuries and facing an imposing scrum Superblues had the early advantage through two converted Neil Barella tries. Havant responded to lead by just one point at the interval and with neither side troubling the scorers again until the final minute it was the hosts Graham Butterworth who went over to break Hertford hearts and secure a 22-14 win for the Hampshire side

Old Albanians remain in trouble in League One as their poor away form continued at leaders Canterbury

Welwyn´s hopes of gaining promotion from League Three North West took a knock with defeat at Ruislip but Stevenage won against Enfield

In London Four North West´s top of the table clash London New Zealand maintained their 100% record beating a battling Datchworth side by just 5 points

Proud Citizens Take Football Honours

Welwyn Garden City have added another chapter to the club´s almanac by reaching the last 16 of the FA Vase in Howard Cowley´s first season.
The replay at Herns Lane proved as tight as the first game with Newmarket Town level at 1-1 after 90 minutes. With penalties looming Alex Kinsley struck the all important winner in extra time to claim a place in round 5 and a visit to Winchester City

Ware extended their lead in Ryman Two with a 3-1 win against Edgware. With Flackwell Heath and Chertsey dropping points the Blues advantage is 5 points
Hertford remain in the bottom two after a goalless draw at fellow strugglers Clapton

London Colney ended a run of 3 games without a win beating Oxhey Jets 2-0 in the South Midlands Premier

Hoddesdon and Codicote advanced to the semi-finals of the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy but Hatfield were beaten. Hoddesdon travel to Bedmond while Codicote entertain Bushey Rangers on February 25th

In the Herts Senior League top flight Buntingford secured an admirable 2-0 win at leaders Whitewebbs Carl Smith scoring both goals while Little Munden shared an eight goal thriller at bottom club Evergreen.
Standon & Puckeridge now lead Division One after putting 5 past Old Parmiterians Simon Coughlan notching a hattrick. Hertford Heath slipped up at Buckhurst Hill while Knebworth kept in touch with a five star display against Cuffley the prolific Jason Drackford scoring twice.

Stevenage Slump Continues

A miserable week for Borough ended with defeat at Tamworth. Defender Luke Oliver made his Stevenage debut 24 hours after signing from Yeovil and saw little action in a forgettable first half as both sides failed to create an opening. Michael Warner and Rob Quinn were boss Graham Westley´s other changes from the team that drew with Woking

For the second time in eight days Borough failed to impose themselves on a team threatened with relegation and belying their lowly position the Lambs struck twice in the second period to seal the points. Carl Heggs opened the scoring from a corner in the 62nd minute. The coup de grace was applied by Matt Williams with a scorching 30 yard drive 11 minutes later

The 2-0 defeat leaves Borough in 7th place with work to do ahead of the visit of Aldershot on Saturday

Stevenage Pin Hopes on Oliver

Borough boss Graham Westley has spent some of the funds generated by the sale of Anthony Elding bringing 20 year old defender Luke Oliver to Broadhall Way

The former Wycombe and Woking player joins from Yeovil for a fee of £15,000 and is looking for more first team football having made just 3 starts for the Glovers

Oliver becomes Boroughs 3rd signing during the transfer window and has signed a contract until the end of next season.

McAllister Back To Haunt Borough

Stevenage Borough 1 Woking 1

Craig McAllister the man Graham Westley released came back to haunt his former boss as Borough's miserable week continued. McAllister unleashed a 25 yard effort into the bottom corner of the net with just 4 minutes left to rob Stevenage of the win they needed to keep their promotion push on course. Earlier Darry Stamp had put Borough ahead just after the hour when he converted a Justin Gregory cross. Woking though could have taken all 3 points had McAllister's last minute effort not curled just wide of the target.

Boro complete Miller signing

Stevenage confirmed the signing of Adam Miller today from championship side Queen's Park Rangers. Miller was a key member of the Aldershot team who reached the play-off semi finals against Shrewsbury in 2003/4 before a £50,000 move to Loftus Road during the following season. Graham Westley moved quickly to sign Miller, beating off competition from several league clubs to land the midfielder

Stevenage 0-1 Southport

Stevenage fell to only their second home defeat of the season with a truly awful display against Southport. Borough never got going, and in truth they should have lost at least 3-0. The only goal of the game came just after the hour, when a miscalculation from Ronnie Henry let Mark Robinson in, and in trying to rectify the mistake only took Robinson down. Henry was the last man and was rightly sent off. Robinson picked himself up and scored the penalty, taking over the penalty taking duties from Chris Lane, who had seen his first half penalty came crashing off the bar. Borough had the chance to level in the 86th minute when a blatant and stupid handball in the area gave Boro a penalty. However, Darryn Stamp's spotkick was deservedly saved by Steve Dickinson, giving the bottom side the three points that their efforts had deserved. Borough will face Woking on tuesday, knowing that they will have to regroup quickly in order to avoid another defeat.

Kinsley To The Rescue As Citizens Get Another Chance

Newmarket 2 Welwyn Garden City 2 after extra time

Alex Kinsley’s goal 5 minutes from the end of extra time kept the Citizens hopes of FA Vase glory alive after a dramatic afternoon at Cricket Field Road. Howard Cowley’s team were forced to come from behind twice despite creating a host of chances. Quick to settle the Citizens should have taken the lead after 20 minutes when Nick Brindley’s powerful shot came back off the right hand post. Bradley Garness and Matt Wardle also had good chances before the break as Newmarket failed to match the visitors work rate. There was more of the same at the start of the second half Wardle seeing his close range effort well saved before Brindley was again denied by the woodwork. It looked as if the Citizens chance had gone when Sam Reed’s sharp finish put the Jockeys ahead with 20 minutes to go but second half substitute Mark Seller forced the game into extra time smashing home from 10 yards in the 85th minute. Paul Shaw looked to have booked Newmarket a place in the last 16 pouncing on Craig Mackay’s mistake as both teams began to tire. But with just 5 minutes left Alex Kinsley’s cool finish from the right hand side of the box set up a replay at Herns Lane next Saturday.

Westley Struggling To Find New Blood

Stevenage Borough boss Graham Westley has admitted that he is struggling to sign the players that he wants as the transfer window comes towards its close.
Westley was talking to the Non League Paper after missing out on the signature of midfielder Matthew Gill who has joined Exeter. "Financially, we just can't afford the players' demands" He said "I haven't got the money available to compete with what others are paying. I couldn't afford to compete with the first Exeter offer let alone the final deal."
Westley is unlikely to see any of the Anthony Elding transfer fee as he pursues his other targets saying “This year, I am working with less money in my budget than last year. And although gates are up, the club has expended on the new academy so these gate revenues and funds like the Elding fee are already committed. The chairman is clear about that.”

Rockets All Set

The Rye House Rockets have completed their line up for the new Premier League Speedway season. The League Champions have retained the services of 5 of the riders that led them to their first title in 25 years. Stuart Robson, Edward Kennett, Chris Neath, Steve Boxall and Tommy Allen will all be returning to Hoddesdon this summer. The new additions to the squad are Elmside Raider Luke Bowen and 17 year old Jamie Courtney. Bowen is likely to create a lot of local interest as he hails from nearby Harlow, he earnt his chance thanks to some stunning performances at Conference level. Courtney becomes the third member of his family to represent the Rockets after Dad Mark and Uncle Sean. He joins on a full transfer from the Isle of Wight but is no stranger to the Hoddesdon circuit having made his debut there for the Elmside Raiders when only 15.
