Herts Retain Twenty 20 Crown

Herts cricketers proved their superiority in the game´s shortest version by holding onto the 4 counties trophy they won last year. 3 emphatic wins against Bucks, Berks and Oxfordshire ensured the Graham Skinner Shield goes nowhere after a day of all round success.
A 9 hour slog fest began with an impressive bowling display by the Welwyn Garden City trio Murti Hussain (3-19) Ben Frazer (2-23) and Aaron Laraman (1-11) assisted by Knebworth´s Tony Skeggs (2-25). Bucks total of 134-9 was passed with 2 overs to spare as Herts ended on 136-5 (Steven Cordingley 31, Frazer 27)
Oxfordshire who beat Beds in their first match then saw Cordingley smash 84 from just 46 balls as Herts amassed 175-7. Laraman and Hussain picked up 2 wickets apiece and a crucial spell of 2-6 from Hertford´s Phil Carlson kept Oxon to 142-8
An all round batting effort against Beds saw Herts post a useful 164-5. Knebworth´s Tom Jenkins top scored with 42 and received good support from Frazer (25) and Laraman (21)
Hussain then capped a fine day with the ball by strangling the Beds reply earning him the bowler of the day award and his team the Twenty 20 title for the 2nd year running.

In club action Welwyn Garden City moved into pole position in the Home Counties cricket league Division Two East thanks to a 67 run win at bottom club North Mymms. Their total of 253-7 proved more than adequate and with Hoddesdon winning at Potters Bar WGC´s lead is 17 points. Hoddy made it look easy at the former league leaders chasing a victory target of 234 with only 3 wickets down in under 50 overs. Good bowling performances from both Stevenage and Knebworth Park punctuated a good afternoon for Matchbeat teams, although Hertford were denied by a last wicket partnership as Radlett held out for a draw at Balls Park
In the Saracens Herts league 3rd placed St Margaretsbury settled for a share of the points at Luton Town after struggling to threaten their target of 221
