Hertford and Knebworth exit Evening Standard Trophy

Hertford followed up last weekends Cockspur Cup defeat to Brondesbury with another chastening loss in the Evening Standard Second Round on Sunday. The Middlesex County Premier club ran up a total of 322-2 in their 50 overs with captain Ben Claypole scoring 119 and Mark Lowrey 101. Hertford were never in the hunt and Stephen Riddle´s 32 was top score in an all out total of 175
Knebworth Park also suffered at the hands of High Wycombe´s batsmen Mark Morgan leading the way with 135 not out as the Bucks team posted 339-3. KP made a brave fist of their reply but Chris Sketchley (3-34) kept them in check as the hosts finished over 100 runs short
The two Home Counties teams had met the previous day in a league match that was equally one sided. Knebworth Park´s David Lowe hit the Hertford bowling to all parts of Balls Park in his 143 which turned out to be 44 more than the hosts combined effort who found Chris Fisher (5-29) a real handfull.
Welwyn Garden City moved to within 2 points of leaders Potters Bar with a 6 wicket victory at their expense led home by Mo Hussain´s unbeaten 71.
Hoddesdon suffered an agonising last ball defeat to Hemel Hempstead. Steve Coleman and Rhys Wynne hit half centuries for Hoddy and despite 5 wickets for Ovais Yousuf Hemels last man hit the final ball for 4 to win the match
The bowling performance of the day came from Shane Burger who took 8 for 43 against Stevenage. Radlett struggled to their victory target as Saeed Ali Kazmi kept the hosts in touch with 4 for 32

In the Minor Counties Knockout Cup Hertfordshire ended their group matches with a penultimate ball defeat to Buckinghamshire. Knebworth Park's Tom Jenkins top scored with 52 and Stephen Cordingley struck 44 in Herts total of 219 for 8 from 50 overs which the visitors passed with one ball to spare to register a 5 wicket win
