Welwyn Chairman Stands Down
Terry Hazell has resigned as Welwyn Garden City chairman following 10 years at the helm of a club he has been associated with since 1968. In that time Terry has been a player, referee, and linesman as well as first team manager, Treasurer and Secretary. Terry’s decision to go is due in part to board-room differences of opinion, as to which direction the club needs to go, to both maintain and exceed the standard of football currently enjoyed at South Midlands Football league level.
Also standing down is Vice Chairman John Small, who has been involved with The Citizens almost as long.
Stepping up into the vacant roles of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and the Membership Secretaries role are Billy Knight, Joe O'Connor, Alan Rendall and Gary Hay.
The club have announced news of a high profile, Pre-Season Friendly to be played against Coca-Cola Championship league side, Barnet. The South Herts side are managed by the former Stevenage Boro supremo and Arsenal scout and advisor, Paul Fairclough. The game itself will be played at Herns Lane on Wednesday August 10th kick-off 7:45 PM.
