May Shines at World Championships
Top FVS TRI triathlete Gavin May was among the honours at the weekend when representing Great Britain in the 35-39 age group at the Long Distance World Championships in Denmark.
Gavin was the 1st GB athlete in his age group and also 2nd home for GB overall
He was overall 12th in the world in his age group and recorded the 6th fastest bike and run splits. The sea swim had to be reduced from 4k to 3k due to the cold conditions and medical staff were on hand to treat competitors with jelly fish stings, a common occurrence in the area.
Gavin had previously represented GB in Nice and also qualified for and completed Ironman Hawaii in 2004. He returned to compete earlier in this year at Ironman France after an enforced layoff due to illness after Hawaii and so his result is even more remarkable.
Result
Swim: 00:58:24 rank 48
Bike: 03:16:48 rank 6
Run: 02:13:26 rank 6
Total: 06:32:47 rank 12th
