Stevenage 0 - 3 Spurs
Matchbeat
Justin Gregory lost the ball on the left wing, and a clinical break by Spurs left Fredi Kanoute the simple task of rolling the ball into the net. Boro also made changes at half time introducing new goalkeeper Shane Gore in the place of Alan Julian. He had to be at his bes to keep out multiple Defoe efforts, as well as a good effort from Mido. Chris Sullivan replaced George Boyd on the left wing, and his pace immediately set up a chance for fellow substitute Jon Nurse, who hit over with the goal at his mercy. Not long after that Spurs increased their lead when Mido powered the ball home after a corner was not cleared properly. Simon Weatherstone then forced Spurs no.3 keeper, Fulop into a good save with a 30 yd thunderbolt, before Defoe with 5 mins to go, calmly rounded Gore to slot in no.3.
The verdict for Stevenage, a good run out with some good individual performances. Nice to see Michael Brough back in a Boro shirt after almost a year out. As for the comings and goings. Williams and Gore caught the eye, with Berquez quietly going about his business. However, despite the fact he would have started behind the four other strikers, Graham Westley could regret losing Craig Mcallister to Woking. He looked a good prospect and will probably do well for them. The fixtures suggest that September is the toughest month early on, and Boro will look forward to rising to the challenge.
