Bad Boy Dino Takes Five

Stevenage Borough's Dino Maamria has been banned for five games following his sending off against Grays on Saturday. The red card was Maamria's third of the season and he will now miss this weekends FA Cup Second Round tie against Northampton. Ironically if there are no cup replays Maamria will be available again for the visit to Grays on New Years Eve.

Local Radio Gives Matchbeat Vote of Confidence

Despite taking action to axe its sports team in August it has now come to light that local radio station Hertbeat FM are regular visitors to the Matchbeat Blog using information they gain in their on air content. Matchbeat founder Pete Hill was not surprised by the discovery saying " I think it proves we are providing a good service for local sports fans. Its just a pity that the management at Hertbeat FM didn't realise how important local sport was in August. As far as them using the information I don't have a problem with that although some form of credit would be nice. Perhaps it may force them into a rethink on their policy towards sport."

Barella the Hero as Superblues March On

National League Division Three South
Hertford 21 Reading 10

16 points from Neil Barella allowed Hertford to stretch their winning streak to 3 games as they withstood a strong second half comeback at a windswept Hoe Lane. Barella started the scoring with a 4th minute penalty and closed out the victory with another accurate kick in injury time. Superblues had led 18-0 at the break with Barella and skipper Dave Hesketh both going over for tries. The visitors though took maximum advantage of their superior pack strength in the second half to dominate proceedings an Alex Wallace try cutting the deficit to just 8 points midway through the half. In a thrilling finish Reading's Spike Chandler was denied a try when referee Tim Miller spotted a knock on before Barella made certain of the win.

Tough Start in Cup For Rockets

The draw for next seasons Premier League Knock Out Cup has paired the Rye House Rockets with the Isle of Wight in the first round of the competition. Should the Rockets progress against the team they knocked out of this seasons play offs they will face a tough assignment against either holders Kings Lynn or Berwick who finished second in the table. The draw was made at the annual speedway promoters conference in Tenerife where it was also decided to adopt the play off system used in the Elite League. That means the identity of next seasons Premier League Champions will be decided by the end of season competition.

Shot Shy Blues Have No Answer

Hertford 0 Chertsey 2

Two first half goals were enough to give higfh flying Chertsey a comfortable win at Hertingfordbury Park. The defeat stretched Hertford's winless streak in the league to seven games. Kelvin Hart's team can have little complaint after failing to muster a single shot on target. Jamal Dacosta put the visitors in front from close range after 24 minutes. John Pomroy's sharp turn and shot from the edge of the area doubling the advantage 10 minutes before the break. It wasn't until 5 minutes from time that the Blues threatened Chertsey's lead when substitute Peter Ulatowski saw his header drift over the crossbar.

Borough Ruin Gazza's Big Day

FA Cup First Round

Kettering 1 Stevenage Borough 3

Any ideas Paul Gascoigne may have had of starting his managerial career with an FA Cup run were ruined by a thoroughly professional performance from Borough. Darryn Stamp opened the scoring after only 7 minutes converting George Boyd's cross. Neil Midgely put the home side level with a close range effort before George Boyd struck from 25 yards midway through the second half to put Stevenage back in front. Anthony Elding providing the icing on the cake with the third to secure the win and Borough one step nearer a possible meeting with Premiership opposition in Round Three.

Top Scoring Blues March On

Ryman League Division Two

Ware 4 Wembley 0

Ware confirmed their position as Division Two's leading scorers with a comfortable win against struggling Wembley at Wodson Park. Sam Rose opened the scoring after 16 minutes firing home from the left hand side of the box after Sam Berry's intelligent free kick had picked him out. The unfortunate Wayne Mcormack slid the ball beyond the reach of his own keeper to double Ware's lead 6 minutes later. The impressive Bradley Stamp made it 3-0 cooly finishing when sent clear of the visitors defence mid way through the second half. Joe Stevens completing a fine afternoon scoring his 7th goal of the season with the last kick of the match.

Dino Out of Cup Clash

Dino Maamria has been given a two match ban for his red card against Gravesend that means he will miss Stevenage Borough's much publisised FA Cup trip to Kettering on Saturday. Maamria will also miss the Conference game at home to Kidderminster on November 12th. Due to overwhelming demand Kettering have announced that their Social Club facility will not be open to visiting supporters on Saturday. The Poppies are expecting their biggest crowd for many years at the match which sees Paul Gascoigne take charge of the club for only the second time.
